Sam Luby has worked in high school and college admissions for nearly 15 years across counseling, academic leadership, and university evaluation roles. He is an independent education consultant, a professional member of the Independent Educational Consultants Association (IECA), and a Research Fellow at Florida State University, where he collaborates with Undergraduate Admissions and Student Success to study how high school experiences shape first‑year outcomes. His published research includes investigations into the influence of counselor roles on student outcomes, AI and technology shaping the college admissions process, and the landscape of pre-college programs and their influences.  His professional background includes serving as Head of University Guidance Counseling at SUIS Gubei in Shanghai and working as an external admissions reader for UC Berkeley and UC San Diego. He also has experience in EdTech with Naviance and currently advises Snowday and several education organizations on curriculum and counselor development.  He is a Certified Educational Planner (CEP) and a Ph.D. candidate in Education Policy at Florida State University. He also holds an MA in International Education from Concordia University Irvine and a BA in History from Gustavus Adolphus College, where he was a four‑year collegiate swimmer
